This is an aggregation site for "Ideas".
It is a site designed for people to whom ideas matter, who recognize that ideas make a difference, and have some degree of impact and import in the substance and texture of their lives. The aim of this site, therefore, is to focus on those ideas and points of knowledge that the average citizen of our contemporary democratic society should be most familiar with and most immediately focused on in order to participate effectively in this society. There are already any number of well-known "news aggregation" sites of course. Idea Agora is meant to be an "idea aggregation" site, focused on "ideas", rather than "news". This of course begs the question: what exactly is the distinction between "news" and "ideas" ? The distinction I am making here, I guess, is roughly the following: The latter can certainly include the former, and the former had probably better include some element of the latter—if it is not to be entirely mindless—but the category of "ideas" would be primarily focused on the general ideational aspect entailed in whatever is happening in the world at the current moment, rather than on a mere report of the "happening" itself. By necessity and inevitability, this project is one of infinite expansion, requiring infinite addition, and therefore infinite work in maintaining it, keeping it up, renewing it on a daily basis. All I can say at present is that I will do my daily best. |
